Frequently Asked Questions

Questions People Ask Before They Start

Cost, process, timing and what it is actually like to work with a designer. If yours is not here, call and ask — the answer will be just as direct.

Getting started

How do I know if I need an interior designer?

If you have been staring at a room for a year without acting, or you are about to spend serious money on cabinetry and tile and are not certain about the choices, that is usually the moment. Design costs least at the planning stage and most after installation.

When in a project should I bring you in?

Earlier than most people expect. On a build or a remodel, once the electrical is roughed in and cabinetry is ordered, the decisions with the biggest visual impact are already made. On a furnishing project there is more latitude, but lead times still reward starting early.

What happens at the first consultation?

We walk the space and talk about how you actually use it — who cooks, where everyone ends up sitting, what you would like to stop apologizing for. From there we agree the scope and what the next step costs.

Do you take on small projects?

Yes. A single room is a normal scope and it is how a lot of longer relationships begin. See Decorating 1–2 Rooms.

Cost and budget

How much does an interior designer cost in Northwest Arkansas?

It depends entirely on scope — furnishing one room and remodeling a whole house are different orders of magnitude. Rather than publish a figure that would be wrong for most projects, we discuss budget openly in the first conversation and build the scope to fit it.

Do I have to tell you my budget?

No, but it helps you if you do. A designer working without a number either over-specifies and wastes your time, or under-specifies and delivers less than you wanted. A range is enough.

Will you tell me if something is not worth the money?

Yes. Part of the job is directing spend toward the surfaces you touch and the rooms you use, and saying plainly when a proposed change will not repay what it costs.

Can a project be done in phases?

Yes, and many are. The overall direction is set first so that a room finished next year still belongs with one finished this year.

Working together

Who will actually be working on my project?

Stephanie Bowen, the owner and principal designer, runs every project personally from the first walkthrough to the final styling. You are not handed to a junior designer once the contract is signed.

Can you work with my builder or contractor?

Yes, and we prefer it when you already have someone you trust. We coordinate directly with them and provide documented selections so design decisions survive construction rather than being reinterpreted on site.

Can you work with furniture we already own?

Yes. Pieces you love are planned around and the palette built to include them, rather than starting over for its own sake.

Do you handle ordering, delivery and installation?

Yes. Procurement, order tracking, delivery coordination and the final install and styling are all part of a full-service project.

Timing and service area

How long does a project take?

A furnishing project can be a few weeks to a few months. A whole-house remodel runs several months and depends heavily on your contractor and on lead times. We give a realistic timeline up front rather than an optimistic one.

What takes the longest?

Almost always lead times, not design. Custom upholstery and made-to-order window treatments are usually the long poles, which is why they get specified and ordered first.

Which areas do you serve?

Fayetteville, Goshen, Springdale, Bentonville, Lowell and the surrounding Northwest Arkansas communities, from the studio on N Steele Blvd in Fayetteville.

Do you charge for travel within Northwest Arkansas?

Site visits across our regular service area are part of the service, not an extra line. Anything unusually far afield is discussed before it is agreed.

Still have a question?

Ask it directly. A short conversation resolves more than any FAQ page, and there is no cost to having one.
